“From the Rubble” contains so many layers…both of paint, and of meaning. It is a very sculptural piece that I created from otherwise rejected paint drips and blobs. A pink butterfly rises from behind the black masses of paint as if to symbolize hope emerging from destruction. For me, this piece symbolizes 2 things: the beauty that I want to believe a good God will bring out of my darkest, most painful experiences, and secondly, the hope that I dream of for my refugee friends whose lives have literally crumbled before their innocent eyes. Does this painting/collage speak to you? What do you see?
